About the Project
We are currently working on deep research into the materiality of beach balls in our rehearsals. Our work delves into the fundamental nature and the social, political, and economic contexts of beach balls, sand, babies, waves, and sunlight.
Our Process: Through early January, we will remain in pure research mode. Starting mid-January, we will transition to a mix of research and performance preparation. This journey is one of curiosity, experimentation, and collective exploration.
Join Our Team
We are looking for five more dancers to join our group! Rehearsals take place in December, January, February, March, and April. This is an exciting opportunity to immerse yourself in the creative and analytical exploration of movement, objects, and their meanings.

Some of Our Beach Ball Research So Far
-
Interrogating the Beach Ball
-
Begin with: "We’re going to interrogate everything about the nature of a beach ball—materially, spiritually, and in motion.”
-
What is the relationship between the material (plastic) and its breathability or impermeability?
-
How does the tension in the seams affect its structure?
-
How does weight affect the bounce of a ball?
-
What role does elasticity play in its performance?
-
What does it mean to perform as a beach ball in a social context?
-
How does the beach ball reflect or resist structures of control (inflation, deflation)?
-
Can the beach ball occupy multiple identities simultaneously (plaything, burden, decoration)?
-
What is the limit of the beach ball's subjectivity?
-
How does the musculature of the body translate into a ball's trajectory?
-
What is the beach ball’s “resting state”?
-
How does the beach ball achieve its ideal motion?
-
What does it mean for a ball to “push its limits” through weight or wind resistance?
